What's New With Burning Man? We don’t know what the next year has up its sleeve, but we do know you are all what keeps Burning Man alive. Burning Man is a full-on event. More specifically, it's a "temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance," according to the Burning Man organization's website — which is a little long-winded, so you can see why some people resort to simply saying "festival." The festival - which has been running since 1986 - starts on the last Monday of August and ends on the first Monday of September. Event organisers encourage festival-goers to abandon their phones, their money, and probably their clothes, and live and care for each other as one community for an entire week.
