Scapholunate dissociation (SLD) is the most common type of carpal instability. It is the most common instability pattern because the intercarpal motion during flexion and extension cross at the scapholunate interface. Another reason is that compression forces transmitted through the capitate has a tendency to separate the scaphoid and lunate.
greater than 2-5 mm as evidence of scapholunate dissociation. However, these studies included only adults (1). The aim of our study was to measure the scapho

Scapholunate dissociation. Scapholunate dissociation is the most common carpal instability. Scapholunate instability is associated with increased scaphoid flexion and pronation with associated lunate extension. The abnormal kinematics lead to a decrease in surface area contact at the radioscaphoid joint. Scapholunate dissociation is when the small bones in the wrist (the scaphoid and the lunate) move excessively in relation to one another. Physiotherapy is an important part of scapholunate dissociation rehabilitation. How does scapholunate dissociation happen?
Terry-Thomas sign is indicative of scapholunate dissociation (often with rotary subluxation of the scaphoid) due to ligamentous injury. Midcarpal (central carpal)
Scapholunate dissociation is the most common form of wrist instability, defined as “the loss of synchronous motion or normal alignment between the scaphoid and the lunate”. 1 The mechanism of injury is typically a fall with the wrist extended and in ulnar deviation.

Carpal instability secondary to scapholunate (SL) ligament tears can lead to a significant disability of the wrist. Different surgical procedures have been proposed to treat SL instability. A variety of dorsal capsulodesis techniques tethering the scaphoid have been used in patients with SL dissociation. Se hela listan på sportsmd.com No clear consensus exists on the best treatment for patients with chronic symptomatic scapholunate dissociation uncomplicated by arthritis. Although most surgeons agree that operative intervention is indicated, their preferences are divided between soft-tissue and bony procedures.
(another common wrist ligament tear is TFCC injury) It usually occurs when the wrist is twisted with loaded hyperextension and ulnar deviation (wrist moving towards little finger), such as falling onto an outstretched hand
Xray indicates scapholunate ligament instability when the scapholunate distance is more than 3 mm, which is called scapholunate dissociation. A static instability is generally readily visible, but a dynamic scapholunate instability can only be seen radiographically in certain wrist positions or under certain loading conditions, such as when clenching the wrist, or loading the wrist in ulnar deviation. This paper describes a novel method in treatment of scapholunate dissociation accompanied with rotatory subluxation of the scaphoid. The idea of this method is to create a kind of axial lever that can fully reconstruct anatomical relationship between the scaphoid and the lunate, with no involvement of extrinsic ligaments, and with simultaneous restriction of pathological alignment of the scaphoid.
This abnormal articulation causes an increased concentration of load, leading to the development of degenerative arthritis. Scapholunate dissociation: Involves a complete tear of the SLIL with additional tear of 1 or more secondary ligaments. The scaphoid usually rotates into flexion, and the lunate rotates into extension. This is apparent on plain static radiographs. Scapholunate dissociation (SLD) is the most common type of carpal instability. It is the most common instability pattern because the intercarpal motion during flexion and extension cross at the scapholunate interface.
